Indoor/ outdoor sand play can be fun and keep little fingers busy for hours.

Place an under the bed rubber maid contain with sand. When fun OS done place lid on rubber maid container and back under the bed.

What to do with those broken crayons

In a muffin tin put cupcake liners. Put all the shades of blue together, put all the reds together and so on... Filling the muffin liners one quarter full. Bake at 225 watching closely until the bits have melted. Let cool and pull off muffin liners and give to little ones to play with these crazy fun crayons. Enjoy!!!!

Autism Safety

Our little girl has a hard time with understanding dangers. There was a time where she would run from me and we really had to watch as she would run in front of cars, buses etc not understanding the dangers. She could even get out of a stroller she was straped into in mear seconds. I hated going anywhere! I have two children and this often ment my other child was left standing by the stroller as I went running after the littlest one. I got to the point where I didn't not want to go anywhere with out my husbands help.

The always talk about where we are going now and I mention the dangers as we come along them. We are now able to be out and about with out my husband. But I must always be watching and reminding her of dangers.

School Meetings - EA - Special Needs

It is that time of year again, all the school meetinga are happening. It would be great to hear some of the things you are going to transition your child in to the need year of school. We are having a tour of the classroom and a meet the teacher in June so we are able to talk about her and the room all summer. Come fall a week before school starts we are going in to meet the teacher again and just alow her to play in the room to get use to it. We are also using a social story full of pictures. She will start grade 1 next year.

Tori Gets Sick

On thursday of last week Tori got sick. When Autistic kids get sick it is so hard to figure out what is wrong. She is better now, but it was scarry. She can not tell you what is wrong, and when she does say something you are not really sure if that is what she means or not. Now everyone else is getting it.

Ideas For Air Plane Travel With An Autistic Child

We have traveled several times on a plane with my daughter Tori, each time gets a little better. This last trip went really well so I thought I would share my secrets to sussesful air travel with you.
We started to discuss going on the airplane about two weeks before we left. I have a book that I made up to go over all the thing we would encounter. I also did a book up to show her proper behavior on a plane what was aloud and what was not. (I will include links for these later).

I made up a shirt that she wears that says be patent with me I am Autistic. This helps when she get out of control. It also explains some of her behavior to others, like the time she held out her arm and yelled at the security gaurd STOP! That is my bag as we were going through security.

I come preparde with more snacks then she will ever be able to eat as I don't want to run out. I pack all her favorites at the time. We bring a sports bottle and once through security we purchase a drink for the bottle for the plane that way we do not ever not have something she may want. We use a sports bottle so if and when she throughs it, juice will not spill on anyone else.

I take card games, paper for colouring and crayons, music on an ipod with headphone to help drown out some of the sounds of the airport. I also put movies on the ipod for her to watch.

I prebook the seats so I know she will get a window seat. This helps with the comotion on the plane of the people moving around she is tucked away and does not have to move for anyone.

I take a change of clothing.

I also give her something to look forward to once we get off the plane.
